Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic syndrome is a collection of risk factors that increase your chance of developing heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. The main risk factors are obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and insulin resistance.
People with metabolic syndrome are at increased risk for heart disease and stroke due to the combination of these risk factors. Metabolic syndrome can be treated with lifestyle changes, such as diet and exercise, and medications.
If you have metabolic syndrome, it is important to control your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels. You can do this by eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and taking medication as prescribed by your doctor.
If you have metabolic syndrome, you should see your doctor regularly to monitor your risk factors and to make sure you are taking medication as prescribed. You can also talk to your doctor about ways to lower your risk of developing heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.
