Knees are the joints where the bones of the leg meet. They are supported by muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Knees allow us to bend our legs and walk.

The knees are one of the most important joints in the human body. They are responsible for supporting the weight of the body and allowing us to move our legs.

Knees are made up of three bones: the femur (thighbone), the tibia (shinbone), and the patella (kneecap). These bones are connected by muscles, tendons, and ligaments.

The knees are one of the most commonly injured parts of the body. There are many different types of knee injuries, but some of the most common include:

  • ACL injuries: The ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) is a key ligament in the knee that helps to stabilize the joint. It can be easily injured, especially during sports.
  • Meniscus tears: The meniscus is a piece of cartilage that acts as a cushion between the bones in the knee. It can be torn if the knee is twisted too far.
  • Patellar tendonitis: This is an inflammation of the patellar tendon, which runs from the kneecap (patella) to the shinbone (tibia). It can be caused by overuse or injury.

If you think you may have injured your knee, it is important to see a doctor right away. Treatment for knee injuries will vary depending on the type and severity of the injury but may include rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE). Surgery may also be necessary in some cases.
