Dr. Fossel received a Ph.D. and MD at Stanford, where he had an NSF Fellowship, taught for several years, and studied aging and progeria.

He was a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Michigan State University for almost three decades. During this time, Dr. Fossel conducted research on the molecular biology of aging, telomeres and telomerase, stem cells and regenerative medicine, progeria, and mitochondrial diseases.

He has published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals such as Science, Nature Medicine, The Journal of Clinical Investigation, Nature Reviews Genetics, and PNAS. He is the founding editor of Rejuvenation Research, and co-founder or scientific advisor to several biotech companies

In 2014, Dr. Fossel founded Telocyte, Inc., a biotech company developing telomerase activation therapy for aging, degenerative diseases, and cancer.

The goal of Telocyte is to develop targeted therapies that can activate telomerase to help cells regenerate, slow down aging, and extend lifespan.

Dr. Fossel has devoted the last two decades of his career to understanding and addressing the causes of aging. He is a founding member of the American Aging Association and a board-certified emergency physician.

He has been awarded numerous honors for his research, including a Merit Review Award from NIH, and has written extensively on aging and regenerative medicine, including his book Cells, Aging, and Human Disease.
