Dr. Joseph Brewer, M.D.
An infectious disease specialist, with 40 years experience.
Dr. Brewer is a Kansas native, having grown up in western Kansas. He completed his undergraduate degree in microbiology at the University of Kansas before attending medical school there as well.
After completing his residency in internal medicine at St. Luke's Hospital of Kansas City, he did a fellowship in infectious disease at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.
After returning to Kansas City in 1980, Dr. Brewer became the first full-time infectious disease physician at St. Luke's Hospital; practicing with a group of internists located there.
Dr. Brewer established Plaza Infectious Disease in 1988 and it has since been the go-to infectious disease consulting practice at St. Luke's. He is also board certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Brewer is especially experienced in diagnosing and treating infections that are difficult to diagnose or unresponsive to treatments, such as HIV or airborne infections from a foreign country.
